Springtime in Minnesota means a major shift in the weather. Whether it be tending to the yard, safely socializing outdoors, or just enjoying the sunshine, many people truly enjoy the shift from the cold and snowy weather to rays of sunshine and warm breezes. However, once you’ve worked up a sweat and return indoors, it’s not so fun to encounter problems with your air conditioner. As the months get warmer, people definitely feel the heat and the pressure to ensure their AC units are in working order. Rumpca Services has years of experience repairing AC units to help ensure homes can stand the heat. Here are some common air conditioner issues that many folks endure as the weather gets warmer: Air Conditioner Repair Woodbury Minnesota
A Dirty Filter
It’s recommended that your filter is changed a number of times throughout the year. When your filter becomes dirty, it causes your air conditioner to be less efficient and eventually totally restrict the air flow, resulting in the air conditioner not cooling your home. A dirty filter also reduces the indoor air quality of your home, which can cause a multitude of health problems, such as headaches and allergy flare-ups, if not properly cared for. A clean, freshly changed filter can improve the quality of your airflow and reduce the risk of needing expensive repairs to your unit.
A Tripped Breaker
A common cause of an air conditioner not working is a tripped breaker. Often times, when the AC breaker trips, it’s an indicator that there is a short circuit, the unit is being overworked, or there is a part of the unit that isn’t properly functioning. If you continue to run your air conditioner it could cause permanent damage to the air conditioning unit. Sometimes, a bad breaker, loose wire, or bad capacitor can be an easy fix, and other times it may result in expensive repairs. Contact a professional HVAC repair technician as soon as you’re able.
Leaking Refrigerant
When your unit experiences a refrigerant leak, the efficiency of your system drops and your overall electricity use can spike, causing monthly costs to rise. Additionally, refrigerants are considered greenhouse gasses, a harmful risk to the environment. A refrigerant leak can also cause damage to the compressor, which is an expensive fix. Your air conditioning system should be sealed, and therefore never result in a refrigerant leak.
If your HVAC system has old R22 refrigerant, it’s important to note that after 2010, manufactures no longer produce AC units with R22 refrigerant in them, and at this point in time, R22 prices are increasing in cost. Consider that it may not be cost effective to repair an AC unit leaking R22 refrigerant. R22 is being regulated on a federal level. By 2030, R22 refrigerant won’t be manufactured.
As spring approaches, you may find that your air conditioner needs some attention in order to operate safely and efficiently. A few things that may cause your air conditioner to malfunction are a dirty filter, a tripped breaker, and leaking refrigerant.
